About Us
The Kentian Society was formed by past students and staff of Kent Street Senior High School following the school’s highly successful 50th Anniversary celebrations in 1990. The Society was incorporated on 24 December 1992, becoming the first ex-students and staff association of a Western Australian Government high school, south of the river.
Society Application for Charitable Status
The Management Committee established a select sub-committee in early 2024 to prepare a detailed report examining the question of the Kentian Society seeking charitable status, and possible endorsement as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). The Committee considered that report (which can be found here), and endorsed its recommendation that the Society’s constitution should be amended by putting a special resolution (75% majority) to the membership at the AGM on 26 May 2024.
All of the constitutional amendments in the special resolution were subsequently passed unanimously by all Society Members present at the general meeting, and the new rules were officially lodged in the office of the Commissioner for Consumer Protection on 11 August 2024. See the Society Constitution page for a complete copy of the amended constitution.
A formal application to the relevant federal agencies to register the Society as a charity with DGR status is now underway.
Strategic & Operational Plans
In October 2023, the Management Committee approved a new Strategic Plan which will guide the work of the Society for the next two years by focusing on connections for our alumni through four key pillars: networking, experiences, giving back, and communications and sharing stories.
The comprehensive document opens with a paradoxical quote from English author Neil Gaiman that encourages people to make mistakes. He says if you do so, “then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world.”
That ethos reflects the Kentian Society’s shared values with Kent Street Senior High School of respect for learning, resilience to achieve, and responsibility to our school and community.
The new Plan explicitly recognises the incredible learning opportunities that come from networking and coming together across all generations of alumni. The opportunities the Society offers to volunteer, or to donate, or to offer expertise all provide our alumni with another way of connecting through “giving back”.
The Plan promotes the ethos of “making a difference” and notes that stories are powerful – they move people. That’s why we want the stories of our alumni, out in the world and having an impact, to inspire our current students and each other.

The Society promotes social ties between past and present members of the school by supporting alumni in: Organising-a-Reunion, contacting former classmates, obtaining their old school records and accessing school archives of historical material.
We support Kent Street Senior High School in promoting high educational standards for its students by providing scholarships, bursaries and prizes through the Kentian Scholarship Foundation (Inc). Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible
